White Alice.

White Alice Communication Towers were used in Alaska during the Cold War in order to warn The United States of an approaching attack by bombers and ballistic missiles from The Soviet Union. They also served to scatter television and radio transmission and remained operational until the late 70's.

I hiked a few miles to Anvil Mountain where one of these White Alice towers still rests. The top of the mountain also gives some terrific views of Nome and the surrounding mountains.
